April leap or May slog, Romney on pace to GOP nod

MILWAUKEE (AP) ? April looks good for Mitt Romney, with its string of Midwestern and Eastern primaries seemingly tailor-made for the Republican presidential front-runner.

In May, the GOP campaign turns again to the South, where the former Massachusetts governor has struggled. But at this point only a total collapse will deny him the nomination.

Romney has amassed more Republican National Convention delegates than all his competitors combined and is nearly halfway to the 1,144 needed to win. And he can put a dagger in the ambitions of any remaining rivals in June, with states like California and New Jersey, where he's positioned well with money and key endorsements.

In the meantime, he's poised to dominate the next month, with money, organization and geographic advantages.

"April will be much more favorable to Romney," said Dick Hug, a Maryland Republican fundraiser who supports Romney.

What lies ahead in Romney path to the nomination:

___

WISCONSIN TILTING ROMNEY'S WAY

Romney looks strong in Wisconsin, the big prize in Tuesday's three-state mini-sweepstakes.

And he got a big boost Friday when Wisconsin's influential Rep. Paul Ryan endorsed him in a nationally broadcast television interview.

Ryan told Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends" that he feels Romney is best suited to be the party's nominee this fall and take on President Barack Obama.

Ryan, who is chairman of the House Budget Committee, also said he's convinced that "if we drag this thing on through summer, it's going to be harder" to turn Obama out of office.

The pressure is on Santorum in the former Pennsylvania senator's last chance to make the argument that he can win in the all-important industrial heartland.

Romney has had his number. He edged Santorum in Michigan and Ohio and won big in Illinois.

The formula has been simple: Swamp Santorum with TV ads and get big help from a pro-Romney group. Romney and that group, Restore Our Future, were spending about $3 million on television advertising in Wisconsin, a roughly 4-to-1 edge over Santorum and his allies.

It seems to be working. Romney has overtaken him, according to a Marquette University Law School poll published Monday.

Santorum has campaigned aggressively in conservative rural Wisconsin in the past week.

Romney arrives in the state on Friday, but he has already been sponsoring phone calls attacking Santorum's labor record, a hot topic where GOP activists are rallying to Gov. Scott Walker's recall election for signing anti-union legislation.

And Restore Our Future has been on television attacking Santorum since last week.

"Romney hasn't been here, but other groups are spending heavily for him," said Mary Buestin, a Republican national committeewoman from Wisconsin.

___

MARYLAND and DC FAVOR ROMNEY

Maryland and Washington, D.C., are a lock for Romney, despite his calling himself a Beltway outsider.

Romney has campaigned in Maryland. Santorum hasn't.

Then there's Restore Our Future again, spending nearly $900,000 on television ads for him there.

And Santorum failed to file to appear on the District of Columbia ballot.

Romney could really start to pull away Tuesday. Most of the delegates at stake in all three states are winner-take-all, not the proportional contests that dominated the first three months of voting.

___

APRIL LULL

Voting takes a three-week break after Tuesday. Romney will be raising money but also working behind the scenes to bring nervous conservatives into his tent.

This week he trumpeted praise from tea party icon Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., and endorsements from Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and American Conservative Union President Al Cardenas.

Santorum sought to stoke doubts about Romney as a conservative by appearing outside the Supreme Court as it heard arguments about Obama's health care law.

"This is the most important issue in this election," Santorum said, referring to the 2010 law, which Romney's critics compare to one he signed in Massachusetts. "There's one candidate who's uniquely disqualified to make the case."

That would be Romney, of course.

___

BIG EAST TOURNEY

The rest of April doesn't look much better for Santorum than Tuesday's contests.

On April 24, Connecticut and Rhode Island should be scarcely different than the string of four New England states the former New England governor has already bagged.

The same for New York, where polls have shown Romney dominating, and for Delaware, where Restore Our Future is the only group advertising.

Restore Our Future is advertising in all five April 24 primary states, including Pennsylvania.

Romney shows no signs of ceding Santorum's home state. Polls show Santorum leading, but Romney has amassed support from key GOP leaders and fundraisers.

Santorum's Senate tenure and grass-roots following give him an edge, Pennsylvania GOP strategist Leslie Gromis Baker said. But Romney is poised to outperform expectations.

"Santorum may win it, but it may not be as convincing," said Baker, an adviser to former Gov. Tom Ridge and former President George W. Bush.

___

MAY: SOUTH RISES AGAIN

Santorum hopes to continue to drain delegates away from Romney in North Carolina and West Virginia on May 8.

Drawing support from evangelical conservatives, he has won four of eight Southern states while Romney has won only Florida and Virginia.

Indiana's Midwestern flavor and urban pockets give Romney hope on May 8. But the race looks southward again, favoring Santorum, with May 22 primaries in Arkansas and Kentucky.

Santorum's Christian following gives him the edge in Texas, but Romney can compete. On Thursday, he added the support of former President George H.W. Bush to a long list of local and congressional GOP leaders.

Texas' huge delegate cache will be split according to the vote, and add to Romney's overall lead, even if he loses, Maryland's Hug said.

"You've got big ones in May like Texas, where, even if he doesn't win, he'll get his share of votes," Hug said.

JN Real Estate Fair set for Florida, USA | Jamaica National Building ...

To feature Jamaican Property Developers

Jamaicans residing in Florida, USA will be able to find out more about real estate investment opportunities in the island, at a JN Real Estate Fair, to be staged at Inverrary Country Club in Lauderhill, Florida, on Sunday, April 22, 2012.

?The fair is being organised by the Florida Representative Office of Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), under the theme ?Paradise is Calling,? to provide direct access to real estate developers and agents from Jamaica who are participants in the JNBS Preferred Lender Programme.

?In addition, Jamaica National will highlight its special 9.4% rate on residential mortgages, which is currently among the lowest now on offer in Jamaica.

?Mrs. Janice McIntosh, Chief Representative Officer for Jamaica National in Florida, said that the fair will give Jamaicans living in Florida, ?the opportunity to learn more about home and property developments in the island; and explore opportunities for ownership.?

?Developers in the Preferred Lender Programme will mount displays and provide print collateral material for prospective home owners to explore and commit to a purchase.? Under the Preferred Lender Programme, Jamaica National collaborates with real estate developers in Jamaica? that satisfy strict criteria, and offers promotional support for their housing solutions.

??They are Jamaican based real estate agents, who have formed an alliance with the JNBS Mortgage Unit,? Mrs. McIntosh pointed out. ?And, through this partnership, we are educating Jamaicans residing overseas about housing options in Jamaica.?

?She pointed out, that last year a series of real estate workshops were hosted by the JN Representative Office in cities across Florida, which resulted in a significant increase in interest from Jamaicans, ?seeking to learn more about real estate investment opportunities, as well as to clarify land and other estate related issues.?

??We plan to use this Real Estate Fair to give prospective patrons much more information; therefore, we have also invited quantity surveyors and lawyers to attend the event,? Mrs. McIntosh stated, ?because these representatives will be able to provide meaningful information to guide the decision making of participants.?

?For persons who may have property in Jamaica, or who are currently pursuing legal and estate matters, Mrs. McIntosh said that the National Housing Trust (NHT) and the National Land Agency (NLA), will also have representatives on hand ?who will be able to provide up-to-date information for persons who need to establish their status with the NHT, or get detailed information about land they own in Jamaica.?

???We anticipate that some persons will be actively seeking to acquire homes or land,? she stated. ?With our experience in providing mortgages and this attractive lending rate, it will be the perfect opportunity to serve potential purchasers.?

?Patrons can attend the JN Real Estate Fair at no cost. Interested persons are invited to contact the JNBS Florida Representative Office at 1-800-390-7850, or by sending an email to jmcintosh@jnbs.com for additional information.

Dr. Cara Barker: How Well Do You Know the One You Love? A ...

How current is your love? Recently, after facilitating a series of what I call "Couple's Labs," I was struck with one barrier to love that no one mentions. Now, it should be added that the people who attend are exceptional. They realize that they have allowed their love to go stale or, at the very least, become humdrum, and they want to correct the situation. One man shared the following: "I know all about my wife. After 5.5 years, what is there new to share?" She joined in: "Really, I know everything about Shawn, from the way he drops his socks, instead of pitching them into the laundry, to his favorite shows, and punch lines to his jokes." Both of them agreed: "There must be more. What are we missing?" Another couple, married for more than 42 years, grinned. "You think you know him now," smiled Ralph. "Wait another 37 years! No more empty pages to turn."

Oh, really now? Tell that to couples who operated like Georgia O'Keeffe and Gregory Bateson, or Joseph Campbell and his wife, Jean. In these exceptional cases and others I know personally, love was kept alive because it was treated as a verb, not a noun. True, it is rare for a marriage to transcend the pedestrian and arrive at the level of sacred marriage, in which a dimension beyond the mechanical is reached, and the mystery of life and love is explored together.

Expanding love gets down to appreciating that love must be current, electric, pulsating, fresh, flowing, spontaneous. Hard to have it this way when you believe you "know all" about that person who is "numero uno" in your heart. Self-limiting beliefs are the trains of thought that muffle the wisdom of the heart, yearning for exchange with others. All I know is that the nanosecond I believe I know "everything" about my husband or daughter, my grandbaby, or friend, then it is time past due for me to open up my thinking, clear away garbage like, "there's nothing more to learn," and become a willing student.

Doing so means asking questions without assuming you know the answer. It means giving up the need to "know the answer" and take notes to discover theirs. For example: Consider the person most in your heart this very moment. How would they answer the following:

1. What's your favorite taste?

2. What's your favorite color you saw today?

3. What's your favorite scent today?

4. If you could hear any sound, this minute, which would make you happy, what would it be?

5. If someone could say something to you that would touch you most, what would it be?

The answers can be anything. Questions needn't be profound. We are simply going for "real." In my husband's case, his were: "the blue of the sky at the shore, the taste of a peach, the smell of the sand and water, the sound of a cat purring and hearing our granddaughter say 'Papa,'" (her name for him).

Every time we take the time to "get current" with the one we love, the love we feel expands. Showing interest today is the gift that keeps on giving. Priceless. Believing we know all the answers is more a concern over the love of power than the power of love.

Who does not want to know love more and doubt it less? Who wants to become love's stranger? To do so would go against love's very nature and our own. Letting our own best self reign produces big dividends in relationship.

Who's interested in spicing things up?

A Practice to Enrich Love:

1. Record the name of someone you love. It need not be romantic love, although it might be. The name could be that of a friend, a child, a parent, a coworker, a mentor, or a neighbor. Do this before reading further. If you were going to celebrate this person, so they would feel cherished, what experience would you like to create? Forget your wallet. Simply dream. The sky's the limit. Write it down. Do not skip this step! Nobody's looking. This is just for you.

2. Reread what you have written. What is the essence of the experience? Inspirational? Adventurous? Romantic? Surprising? Funny? Beauty? Gratitude?

3. Circle the adjectives that best describe it.

4. Pretend someone were to give you this same sort of experience. For example, say for you said for your partner, your fantasy would be to fly the two of you to Paris, share a loaf of French bread, a slice of Brie, dark red grapes, a bit of ripened pear, as you sipped wine alongside the Seine, beneath the Eiffel Tower, as strolling musicians serenaded. Oh, yes, perhaps you added that there were artists painting nearby. Imagine that this really happened. What might you feel?

5. Let's say that your answer comes up as: outrageous, creative, and just darn happy. Alrighty then. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to look into the mirror, beginning with you. First things, first. Have you sent yourself a love letter this week, from your own best self? I'm serious! Ask yourself: What can you do for you, first, that would leave you feeling outrageous, inspired, and so on? Pick the first thing that pops into your head. Maybe you've been thinking about visiting that zoo this spring. What if you went now, in winter? What if you gave yourself permission to step aside from the heaviness these days and went out to play? What if? Anything will do, as long as you come up with some activity that fulfills the feeling tone of #4.

6. Now, turn to your loved one. Write down the fantasy experience you wish you could provide. Give them your written expression. If hopping on a jet is not in your budget (meaning you are not in that league), no worries. There are other ways to express your heart's delight. In the Paris scenario, you could consider visiting a little local Bistro. Put on some French music at home. Light some candles. Omelets, anyone? What people long for is the experience of giving and receiving. This need not be fancy. Love can express itself as "simple as pie," or as complex as the Taj Mahal. It really doesn't matter. All that counts is you expressing love through you in a way that is real, that delights your heart, and that reminds you of the much for which you are grateful. That's it. It only gets complicated when we stray outside the gate from who we really are.

A Love Letter to the One Who's Willing to Know Love Even More:

Bravo for you! You are the kind of person that makes my feet do the happy dance. Most "humanoids" assume they know pretty near everything about those they love. We assume. We project. We forget to keep love current, to explore. We fall into the trap of believing that what was so yesterday about the person we love is static.

Of course it takes clear intention to be a steward to the heart. It takes time to inquire, to demonstrate interest, to listen sincerely. What an honor and joy it is to have someone like you cross my path, because you are that rare sort of person who understands, at the end of the day, our greatest achievement all gets down to love.

I want you to know that you do make a difference. I see that special beauty in your heart that makes you the wonder that you are. Sometimes, people just forget to tell you. That doesn't mean it is right. It only means that we human beings can get so darn distracted that we forget to communicate, "I see you. I hear your heart." I am so glad you are here with us. I want to hear so much more from you. You matter. Imagine that beautiful valentines are coming to you every single day from love itself. Because this is true: Every flower you see is smiling because you are here. That may seem silly. But I know it is so when I see winter pansies, who most certainly smile. When you see frolicking puppy dogs, you will see that a smile is coming your way, too. In fact, the smile is all around you in ways you haven't noticed. Begin to notice. Meanwhile, get ready. The stars are winking at you while you sleep. You are loved, for you are love.

Your turn: What helps you stay current with love? What would you do to bring fun alive? I'm listening!

Guest Post: Home Improvements to Make Your Home Safer | Home ...

As home owners struggle to make ends meet, some decide on the false economy of cancelling their home insurance. However, if an accident occurs this can lead to costly bills.

Home insurance may seem like a luxury, but it could save you thousands if the worst happens to your home. Therefore, instead of not renewing your policy in an attempt to balance your budget, consider ways to make your home safer. This will also have the added effect of reducing your premiums and helping to save money.

Of course, some security measures will have a price tag, but any costs are a one off and there are also simple tips to follow that are free or inexpensive. When deciding what actions to implement, consider what risks your home is likely to face and take appropriate measures to lessen the risk. In particular, pay attention to fire and theft.

Double Glazing

Investing in new windows may seem an expensive option, but installing quality glazing complete with locks will not only save money on your gas and electricity bills but will also discourage all but the most persistent of potential burglars.

Locks

Many locks are easy pickings to house breakers, so take some advice from a locksmith. Consider a more complicated and technical locking system and back it up with old-fashioned bolts. Install a security chain on every door as well.

Security Systems

A top of the range security system may be out of your price range, but buy the best system that you can afford. Even a dummy camera and signs is enough to deter some burglars. Use prominent signs to warn people of your security.

A simple tip is to surround your house with crunching gravel, as it is impossible to creep up unheard, therefore warning you of unwelcome visitors.

It is also possible to install computer software to enable you not only to monitor your house whilst you are away, but that will also allow you to switch on lights and TVs as well as drawing curtains.

Fire Alarms

Buy several alarms and position them strategically throughout your house, including areas such as the airing cupboard on in the roof, as fires can smoulder in hidden places before catching hold.

Ask a Fire Officer to inspect your house for risk and act on their advice. If your building is old, have an electrician inspect the wiring and ensure the chimney is regularly swept.

The more effort you invest in the safety of your home, the more competitive your home insurance premium will become. In addition, your home will be safer as a result.

A simple test to identify MRSA in wounds could identify the superbug quickly and help prevent infection from spreading

A simple test to identify MRSA in wounds could identify the superbug quickly and help prevent infection from spreading.

Scientists have developed the test to show whether wounds or lesions are infected with bacteria and if MRSA is present.

The test, developed at the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with NHS Lothian, works by taking swabs from a wound or sores, which are then analysed using a strip with electrical sensors that can detect MRSA.

Researchers currently process the swab samples in the laboratory to increase the amount of bacteria present before testing them, but hope to avoid the need for this in the future by improving the strip's sensitivity.

This would enable scientists to develop a test that could be used outside the laboratory, for example in GP practices or people's homes.

The ability to detect the bacteria more quickly than with conventional tests would enable more effective drugs to be given to the patient straight away.

Currently, laboratory tests to confirm whether MRSA is present in a wound can take a full day using conventional techniques.

The test was developed using swabs from diabetic foot ulcers taken from patients attending NHS Lothian's Diabetic Foot Clinic at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Detection of MRSA in these patients is important to prevent the spread of infection, which can lead to the amputation of limbs and increase the risk of mortality.

Dr Till Bachman, from the University of Edinburgh's Division of Pathway Medicine, will present the research behind the test today (Thursday, March 29) at the Advances in Biodetection and Biosensors conference in Edinburgh.

He said: "Antibiotic resistance is becoming a pressing issue in modern healthcare and we are in serious danger of entering a post-antibiotic era. Current tests for MRSA tend to be expensive and not very fast. By developing a rapid and cost-effective test, we would know what kind of infection is present straight away, which will improve the chance of success in treating it."

Edinburgh scientists are using similar technology to monitor signals that bacteria send to each other to spread infections, and chemicals that patients produce that indicate the wound's response to the infecting bacteria. Understanding why bacteria release certain molecules as part of this process will help scientists identify the start of an infection and so treat it promptly.

###

The development of the test, funded with 2.26 million from Scottish Enterprise's Large Scale Research and Development Programme, involved input from the University of Edinburgh's Division of Pathway Medicine, School of Chemistry, School of Physics and Astronomy and the Scottish Microelectronics Centre working with NHS Lothian's Diabetic Foot Clinic and Microbiology Department.

Podcast Basics For Frenchtown MLM Business Bloggers

Today?s Frenchtown direct selling article is for Frenchtown internet rookies who want to kick up their web marketing a notch by adding a podcast to their Frenchtown home business blog.

A podcast is a multimedia file that is downloaded for playback on a mobile device such as an iPod or laptop computer. It can be a digital recording of a radio program or, more often, a program produced solely for online distribution. A podcast can be a recording of a webcast: a live Frenchtown program that is ?streamed? or broadcast on the internet in real time. When this is the case, it is similar to a DVD recording of a live program that you store in the database of your playback device.

A related term is the acronym RSS which probably originally stood for Rich Site Summary feed but is sometimes used for Really Simple Syndication. You have probably seen the term RSS on websites. An RSS feed allows digital files to be downloaded in a standard format. Rosemont podcast listeners often subscribe to favorite ongoing podcasts. When new podcasts are produced, they are automatically downloaded by RSS applications.

It is fairly simple hardware- and software-wise to product your own podcast for your Frenchtown online business
. Your laptop may already have recording capability. If not, you can buy any equipment you need in the Rosemont area.

Frenchtown business owners operating on a shoestring will be happy to know that basic recording and editing software can be downloaded for free. If you want to get fancy, you can always buy more sophisticated software at California specialty computer stores. I recommend using a headset microphone so the mic is always in the right spot to get a clear and consistent recording.

Now the fun part: what will you podcast? The possibilities are endless for Frenchtown direct marketers. You can record California trade show presentations, interviews with founding distributors of your Frenchtown direct sales company, or create an entertaining pitch about your Rosemont business opportunity. Let your expertise and enthusiasm shine.

Creating a podcast gives you a chance to connect with potential Frenchtown customers or downline members in a personal way.

DIY Paint Stick Mobile ? House*Tweaking

Today I?m sharing how I DIY?d the mobile in baby?s corner. It was super easy and inexpensive. Plus, it?s completely temporary so when we blow this joint {our interim apartment housing} we should have no problem taking it with us.

First, let?s talk supplies.

1 -?embroidery hoop I bought a small one {~16? circumference} at JoAnn?s for $1.

2 ? double-sided scrapbooking paper I found this metallic gold 12? x 12? sheet at JoAnn?s for $1.

3 ? paint samples I chose coral and red swatches {Martha Stewart?s Bergamot MSL019 & Maine Lobster MSL024} and had a sample jar of each mixed up at Home Depot in the Glidden brand. This was more than enough paint but I wasn?t able to find the colors I wanted at my local craft store in a smaller container. Also, purchasing the paint samples at the home improvement store made asking for 16 paint sticks more palatable. The two jars of paint cost me $6.

Of note: The paint desk employee informed me that Home Depot will no longer be carrying the Martha Stewart Living paint. However, they will have MSL formulas in their computer so they can color match them in their Glidden brand.

4 ? small foam brushes I bought cheap foam brushes to apply each of the paint samples to my paint sticks. They cost me $2.

5 ? 3M Command hook?I always have a slew of these on hand. With a hanging weight capacity of?5 lbs, this hook is strong enough to safely support the light mobile from the ceiling.

6 ? scissors I used these to cut the scrapbooking paper into circles.

7 ? fishing line?Another item I always have on hand to hang decor. It?s extremely durable and invisible. I used the fishing line to suspend the paper circles from the mobile and to secure the mobile to the adhesive ceiling hook.

8 ? paint sticks Since I was buying paint samples, I kindly asked the paint desk employee if I could have 16 paint sticks. He was more than happy to let me take as many as I wanted because I was a paying customer.

I?ve always been on the fence when it comes to ?borrowing? paint swatches/sticks for DIY craft projects. Although they are free products, I?m assuming home improvement stores tack on the cost of that lost inventory to other items somewhere down the line. Who knows? Maybe someday we?ll have to pay for our swatches and sticks. Remember when you could put air in your tires at no cost?

To determine the number of paint sticks you?ll need, simply measure the circumference of your embroidery hoop in inches.

Mine was ~16? around. Paint sticks are roughly 1? wide, so I grabbed 16 paint sticks knowing there would be a little space in between each stick on the mobile. I ended up only using 15 sticks.

9 ? pencil {not shown because my baby brain hadn?t thought of it yet} I traced circles onto the scrapbooking paper with a pencil.

10 ? tape {not shown because I think Everett was playing with it} I used clear packing tape because that?s what we have on hand at the apartment for moving day.

11 ? hot glue gun & glue?sticks {not shown because I had it plugged in} This is what I used to secure the paint sticks to the hoop.

Once I had everything set out, I got to work.

I removed the inner embroidery hoop {the one with no tightening screw} from the outer ring {the one with the fastener} to use as my mobile base. Essentially, you could make two mobiles from one store bought embroidery hoop if you wanted.

I separated my paint sticks into two equal piles and placed plastic shopping bags under them to use as drop cloths. I reused my JoAnn?s and Home Depot bags?waste not, want not!

Using the foam brushes, I gave each paint stick two coats of paint front and back. I didn?t bother with the sides since I wanted a homemade, imperfect look. I thought the raw wood edges would give me that. I made sure to let them dry in between each coat.

Before glueing the painted sticks onto the hoop, I tied some fishing line onto my hoop so that I?d have something to hang the mobile from.

Once all the painted sticks were dry, I started hot glueing them to the hoop. I found it easier to place the sticks by applying the glue directly to the hoop?not the sticks. I chose to attach the sticks about 2? ? 2.5? down from the flat end {not the end with the curved indentations that are meant to act as handles when used to stir paint} and left about??? gap between the sticks. I held each stick firmly in place for 10-20 seconds after glueing it.?I alternated coral, red, coral, red, coral?you know what comes next.

Placement wasn?t perfect. I didn?t measure as I went along glueing. I just eyeballed it and figured I could make adjustments at the end if I ended up with a gap or two reds next to each other?you know, just hang that part facing the wall. Ha! Luckily, it all worked out and the worst that happened was that I had to squeeze in my last paint stick. In the end, I used 7 coral sticks and 8 red sticks.

I let the glue dry while I moved onto the paper circles that would dangle from the mobile.

To keep things simple {and to keep me from getting up off the floor!}, I used one of my paint sample jars as the template for my circles. I traced around the bottom of the jar and filled my paper with circles.

I cut out the circles by hand. An easier option would be to use a large circle punch but I don?t have one and wasn?t willing to spend $10+ to buy one. Yes, to me, cutting by hand for 10 minutes is definitely worth the $10 saved!

Using tape and fishing line, I attached my gold paper circles to the inside of the mobile. I found this step easier when I hung the mobile from something {in my case, a floor lamp so I could stay on the floor?still} which let me see how the circles were falling and vary their heights accordingly. Basically, I hung the circles at random distances from the bottom of the mobile for a loose, casual feel. Oh, and I didn?t use all the circles I cut out. After suspending 10 circles, I felt any more would feel too busy.

Then I hung the whole thing from the ceiling via a 3M Command hook and more fishing line. I tried taking a picture of this so you could see it in more detail but fishing line is invisible and the ceiling is white, so this is what I got?

Instead of looping the fishing line around the hook as you would if you were hanging something from a wall, I looped the fishing line around the back of the adhesive hook {yup, right where the adhesive is} and just in front of the actual hook part that juts out. That arrow is pointing to where the fishing line is tied since it?s not highly visible. You could always use a screw-in ceiling hook but, again, I was trying to keep things as damage-free as possible since we?re renting. The adhesive hook is working really well so far. I?ve had it up for over a week now with no signs of it pulling loose ? even with the textured ceiling.

I said it before. I just love the playful pop of color and whimsy that the little DIY mobile brings to baby?s corner.

Of course, there are all kinds of ways you could tweak my design into something different:

  • use even more paint colors for a happy, striped effect
  • use a larger hoop and more paint sticks for something bigger?like a tween girl?s faux chandy
  • fold/cut paper into different shapes
  • leave the outside of mobile natural {not painted} but paint the inside a bright hue for an unexpected surprise
  • add inexpensive cord lighting to create a pendant

Do you have any other ideas for alternative spins on my DIY paint stick mobile? I?d love to hear your brainstorming!

In other baby news, well, nothing really. I?m 38 weeks. I was 3cm dilated at my last OB appointment. Just last night I had several hours of regular contractions {about every 5-6 minutes, lasting about 1 minute}. I took a shower to see if that would stop things, thinking then I?d know if it was the real thing. The shower had no effect. We had my dad and his wife come to pick up the boys in case things progressed. I called my doula just to let her know what was going on but assured her that my contractions ? while quite strong and regular ? were not crazy intense and that I was coping well. She encouraged me to rest, so I did. I got some sleep off and on for a few hours with contractions still coming and going. Then all of a sudden at 8am this morning {nearly 10 hours after the contractions began} everything came to a screeching halt. HH is working from home today and I?m just going about my day, pretending last night didn?t happen.

The popular midwife adage is holding true for us: Firsts are long. Seconds are fast. Thirds are unpredictable.

Inman: Buying Real Estate Beats Renting Homes in 98 of 100 U.S. ...

In a recently published story by Inman News, research done by Trulia was analyzed to see which major U.S. Metropolitan areas had more affordable homes available for purchase than those available for rent.

Surprisingly, in 98 out of 100 U.S. cities, buying was a better decision than renting. ?Low home prices and low interest rates have been contributing to this trend for years, but the recent rise in rent prices in many cities has pushed the rent vs. buy index to new lows in many cities.

California and New York had some of the highest price-to-rent ratios in the country, while most of the lowest ?were in Midwest states. ? Seattle came in at #81 with a higher-than-average ratio, but still solidly in the category of a city where it?s better to buy than rent. ? The two cities not on that list with the highest ratios were San Francisco and Honolulu.
